Idukki Gramasabhas pass resolutions against central government's draft notification on Ecologically Sensitive Areas

Special Gramasabhas were held in panchayats across Idukki district to pass resolutions demanding the exclusion of human settlements, farmlands, and plantations from the purview of environmental restrictions. The resolutions were passed in about thirty panchayats across the district, with plans to pass resolutions in all 52 grama panchayats. The main demand raised through the Gramasabhas is the complete exclusion of common people's residential areas, farmlands, and plantations from the environmental sensitive control list.
