A section of commuters protested the extension of the Kottayam-Memu service to Ernakulam, stating the new schedule will increase travel hardship. Commuters also raised concerns that the extension will increase congestion on the Venad Express and that a train from Ernakulam to Kollam via Kottayam is not being considered by the railway.
