Two landslide tragedies and four deaths occurred in 51 days in Kottayam. The incidents include the death of Sangeetha Arul Lal (35) from Chennai Jawahar Nagar and Joseff (Appachan, 80) from Poonjar Thekekkara Perilingualam Oravappara Chelakattu. Sangeetha lost her life due to a landslide near Velathusheryy road in Theekoy, while Joseff died when a landslide hit the house in Perilingualam, Poonjar Thekekkara Panchayat. The district has identified 33 areas as potential landslide zones, with the highest risk in Koottickal, Thalanaad, and Theekoy.
