Villagers continue tradition of avoiding firecrackers for Diwali to protect birds

Over ten nearby villages, including Meettuppalayam, Punkambadi, Chellappaampalayam, Koothampalayam, Vadagal Puthur, and Colourpalyam, have decided to avoid firecrackers for Diwali this year. This marks the 20th consecutive year that the villagers are celebrating Diwali without firecrackers. The decision was taken two decades ago to prevent noise and smoke from frightening the birds and disrupting their breeding cycle.
